Local 2205 is here to serve and protect the rights of our members. The business has changed tremendously over the last few years and we must be willing to change with it. Unfortunately, along with the ever changing work environment, we also have to be concerned with politicians who are determined to bust all unions and make them a thing of the past. Whether we are in the work location, or in the political arena, we must stand together and fight to organize new members, protect our jobs, protect our right to organize and bargain collectively, and preserve our dignity.
The officers you have elected are here to help in that fight, but remember that you are the union. You, as members need to be involved in the local by serving on committees, attending membership meetings, and showing that you support what the union stands for. We must remember our roots and those that paved the way. People like coal miners who have struggled for years to attain safe working conditions or the 146 Triangle Shirtwaist workers that died in the fire in New York. We’ve also had great civil rights leaders join our cause such as Dr. Martin Luther King who was assassinated while visiting Memphis, Tennessee in 1968 to support striking sanitation workers.
We have come a long way over the years and we must not turn back now.
Support your Union.
